The defamation trial between the Minister of Youth & Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh, and former Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Musa Hassan, commenced on 24th January 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Hannah Yeoh had sued Musa Hassan for claiming that she wrote her book “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” with the intention to turn Malaysia into a “negara Kristian” (Christian nation) in a speech at Universiti Teknologi MARA back in 30th January 2020.
The Segambut MP, who was previously the Deputy Women, Community & Family Development Minister, is claiming general damages, aggravated damages, exemplary damages and an injunction to restrain Musa Hassan from uttering the defamatory remarks.
The trial was presided by YA Puan Arziah binti Mohamed Apandi. Hannah Yeoh had taken the stand on 24thJanuary 2024, and the case is slated for continued cross-examination on 15th February 2024.
Hannah Yeoh was represented by Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan, Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, Lim Wei Jiet & Lee Guo Wen, with the firm acting as solicitors. Musa Hassan was represented by Khairul Azam Bin Abdul Aziz & Nur Jehan Binti Abu Bakar.
