Our Lim Wei Jiet has been appointed as counsel for the founders of Parti Kemakmoran Negara, a political party comprising armed forces veterans, who have filed a judicial review today (7th July 2022) at the KL High Court.
The suit was filed because of the delay of the Minister of Home Affairs in reaching a decision on the party’s appeal against the Registrar of Societies’ decision on 16.3.2022 to reject its registration. 113 days (close to 4 months) have passed since the appeal and no decision has been made yet by the Minister. In the suit, the founders are claiming that such delay is unreasonable, unlawful & an infringement on the right to form associations under the Constitution.
The founders of the party are seeking a Court order for the Minister to make a decision on the appeal within 7 days, should the judicial review succeed.
The party is lead by Brig Gen (Rtd) Dato’ Abdullah bin Mohamed, who served with distinction primarily in the Royal Malaysian Air Force. He was involved in various counter-insurgency measures against the communists in the 70s and 80s. He holds an MA in Strategic Studies at Lancaster University, UK and an MBA from Oklahoma City University, USA. He is an active leader of the Retired Armed Officers Association (RAFOC), Persatuan Veteran ATM (PVATM) and Persatuan Veteran TUDM (PVTUDM).
The other founders of the party are comprised of veterans from the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysian Navy & Royal Malaysian Air Force.
The Edge has reported on the above suit.
