University of Malaya Crowned Champions of Jessup 2025 National Rounds

University of Malaya (UM) emerged victorious at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2025 Malaysian National Rounds, edging out Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in the finals. UM also bagged the Best Memorial and Best Oralist awards this year.

Team UM was represented by Cheryl Ng Wen Xuan, Jade Lou, Yong Li Yang & Nishooldran Ravindran.

They were co-coached by our firm’s associate Nevyn Vinosh Venudran. Ms Saradha Lakshmi was a fellow co-coach, and Ms Abby Si Xinyi from Messrs Malik Imtiaz Sarwar acted as assistant coach.

Team UM & UKM will represent Malaysia at the White & Case 2025 Jessup International Rounds in Washington D.C. in March 2025. Jessup is the world’s largest moot court competition, with participants from roughly 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions. It is a simulation of fictional disputes between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations.

This year’s moot problem presents complex international law issues, including the rights and obligations of other members of the international community in competing claims of being a legitimate president of a state, invocation of immunity for government officials accused of grave violations of human rights & legal consequences of receding coastlines for maritime zones.

The firm is a proud supporter of Team UM in the Jessup competition over the years, and wishes the very best for both teams carrying the Malaysian flag in Washington D.C. this year.
